The PBL student instructional activities that will be presented in this workshop target the sixth grade science standards which is the area identified as having the greatest need at Carrollton Junior High School. These instructional units integrate several different content areas and emphasize the use of various technologies. One student activity is based on GPS for the study of conservation during which the students will be collaboratively gathering information, creating a VoiceThread, and creating an Excel graph. Another instructional activity based on science lab safety will include the creation of a comic strip on one of the science lab rules using the Comic Life software. .The students will also write a descriptive summary of the importance of following lab rules. The third PBL project reflects earth science standards on the rock cycle. After conducting research on this topic, the students will create a series of graphics showing the different stages of the rock cycle using Microsoft Publisher and import them into Movie Maker to make a simple animated movie.
